Chapter 18 Availability Management in the Strategic Processes


The previous chapter introduced nine classic cycles of production system operation and management. A production system was defined as one or more plants connected by management processes or that are part of a value chain. Each was briefly described. A purpose of that introduction was to lay a foundation for the following explorations:

  • To identify how the process of availability functions and computer systems, models, and databases formed during the original availability design phases have a role in management throughout a plant’s producing life.
  • To explore how traditional management is accordingly empowered to produce a better overall business result.
