To store an object in Amazon S3, the user can upload a file to a bucket. When uploading the file, a user can set permissions on the object as well as on the additional metadata.
Buckets are the containers for objects, and a user can have one or more buckets. For each bucket, the user can control user access (who can create, delete, and list objects in the bucket), view access logs for it and its objects, and choose the geographical region where Amazon S3 will store the bucket and its contents.
An object can be a file and might contain metadata that describes the file. The following screenshot illustrates the AWS S3 dashboard in detail:
