ROOMS AND ACOUSTICS

The acoustics and noise isolation techniques described in this chapter are only the most basic examples of the many ways to approach the subject. But they will show that improvements to the acoustic environment are well within reach, and that there are many ways to achieve an economical result.

The need for sound absorption is not universal. Some reverberation is essential, as in music presentation and audience empathy in auditoriums. To avoid spoiling the essential character of large public venues, discussion is directed to relatively small rooms such as in homes, theaterettes, and sound studios where the two techniques of Sound Isolation and Acoustic Control are appropriate.
