Diagram Symbols

To assist in reading and preparing diagrams, the following series of drawings introduces the symbols commonly used in Schematic Diagrams and Block Diagrams. The complexity of each symbol indicates which kind of drawing it is for. Some suit only the fully detailed Schematic, or Circuit Diagram, showing every connection. Others suit both the Schematic and the Block Diagram, which shows equipment modules as symbols or labelled boxes, with main circuit paths drawn as single lines joining them.

The method and limits of Block diagrams, which are discussed in Chapter 7, demonstrate the value of a drawing which is simplified as far as possible so that it gives an overview of a system without going into unnecessary detail. ...
