tinue wanting to.
It all begins with understanding the science of badass, but
remember: this is about getting better at not just our tool, but
at the compelling context in which they will (or could) use it.

Science of Badass = Science of Expertise
We won’t nd much academic research on becoming badass.
But there is a robust, practical, science of expert performance
and the development of expertise. In addition to the “formal”
science of expertise, many other areas of scientic research give
us tools and techniques for knowledge and skill acquisition.
From this point forward in the book we’ll use “badass,”
“expertise,” “expert performance,”and “mastery”
interchangeably. People often use “expert” to mean well-known
in a domain, regardless of measurable performance. But in the
science of expertise, the word “expert” has a more precise
denition based on demonstrated ability and results.
