3.5 Graphs on the Graphing Calculator

In this section, we will see that a graphing calculator can display a graph quickly and easily. As we have pointed out, to use your calculator effectively, you must know the sequence of keys for any operation you intend to use. The manual for any particular model should be used for a detailed coverage of its features.

EXAMPLE 1 Entering the function: window settings

To graph the function $y\hspace{0.17em}=\hspace{0.17em}2x\hspace{0.17em}+\hspace{0.17em}8\hspace{0.17em},\hspace{0.17em}$ first display ${\text{Y}}_1\hspace{0.17em}=\hspace{0.17em}\text{and}$ then enter the $2x\hspace{0.17em}+\hspace{0.17em}8.$ The display for this is shown in Fig. 3.28(a).
