Using diagrams is useful in developing an understanding of vectors. However, unless the diagrams are drawn with great care, the results we get are not too accurate. Therefore, other methods are needed in order to get more accurate results.

In this section, we show how a given vector can be made to be the sum of two other vectors, with any required degree of accuracy. In the next section, we show how this lets us add vectors to get their sum with the required accuracy in the result.
