Researchers often use models to account for real-world phenomena in parsimonious and theoretically meaningful ways to guide inference. In this chapter, we take up the task of evaluating models. Model criticism and comparison are core activities in statistical modeling generally, and Bayesian psychometric modeling is no exception. What’s more, these are active areas of research and debate within the Bayesian community on appropriate goals, procedures, and conclusions.
