A RED BRICK HOME
Born in Columbus, Georgia, Alma was the oldest of four sisters. Her dad was a businessman, and her mom made clothes. During that time, some areas in the US had unjust laws that separated and treated Black people unfairly. Because of those laws, Alma’s family moved to Washington, DC, in search of better opportunities and education. They bought a red-brick home close to the White House, and Alma lived there for the rest of her life.
