FAMILY OF ARTISTS
Jewad was born in Ankara, Turkey, to Iraqi parents. When he was a baby, the family moved to Baghdad. Growing up in Iraq, Jewad’s family was full of artists. His father was a landscape painter, his mother a talented embroiderer, and his siblings all became artists. In 1938, Jewad got a scholarship to study sculpture in France and Italy. Unfortunately, because of World War II, he had to leave and could not finish his studies.
