Be a Great Conductor!

I vividly remember the first time I attended a live orchestral performance. I was awestruck that so many musicians, playing many different instruments, could produce such a flawless sound. I understood why the audience applauded enthusiastically when the concert concluded.

Only one thing puzzled me. When the conductor turned to take a bow, the applause lifted the roof. My awe had been directed at the musicians. To me the conductor had played the smallest role. He wasn’t playing an instrument. How much talent does it take to wave a stick?

That was then. I now appreciate that the conductor creates the music. Regardless ...
