A good book can be a companion that lets you leave the workaday world behind.
Losing yourself in a book is one of the few times you can travel anywhere and not worry about baggage or passports.
Think about the history of the humble book. People have been killed for writing books. Some books themselves have been burned and banned. Despite this being the age of the ghost-written, 12-year-old footballer’s autobiography, we still attach a degree of respect to books. We expect books to have substance and be somewhat timeless, in a way that magazines and newspapers aren’t.
