82. Think before you drink

Let’s not get too hysterical about alcohol. But let’s think about it.

No one’s saying ‘give it up’. But if your energy levels aren’t high, it’s one of the obvious energy drainers.

Alcohol (any old alcohol, not just wine) does your heart good. Probably not quite as much as is claimed. For instance, women can only expect the benefits of alcohol to kick in after the menopause, and even then, more than one or two drinks a day is probably detrimental, rather than beneficial.

Having said that, there is even some evidence that it could do your energy levels good. A Spanish study of nearly 20,000 adults found that drinking moderately meant increased sense of wellbeing and less sickness than teetotallers.
