We are now going to look at “automatic” modulators—in other words, modulators that you set up to behave in a certain, and consistent/repeatable, manner. To put it simply, these automatic modulators are level controls, and those levels change over time—as the level changes, the sound produced by the modulation destination changes, too.
There are three main types of modulation sources:
Envelopes, which will we look at first.
Low-frequency oscillators (LFOs).
More complicated gizmos. These generally fall under the category of step generators— explain more when we get to that part of the chapter.
