Interviewing: Choosing the Best from the Rest
Most employee performance problems can be traced back to the hiring process. When a manager points a finger at employees and says, “They didn’t work out,” most of the time there are three fingers pointing back at the manager. The reason is usually “because you should never have hired the person in the first place.” The “you” may have been the manager before you or the manager before that. But a hiring mistake was probably made. Why criticize the employee when we (management) put the wrong person in the wrong job? That doesn’t seem fair.
