Personal and professional development as a teaching librarian

Abstract:

This chapter explores the means and methods of professional and personal development for teaching librarians and describes a number of individual and collaborative strategies for self-evaluation and reflective practice. The chapter encourages teaching librarians to adopt a reflective attitude towards their instructional work and to use the results of constructive self-evaluation, and evaluation by others, to continually improve their teaching and to gradually build a ‘teacher identity’ that will bolster their sense of confidence and self-efficacy.
