APPENDIX ACREATING YOUR FIRST C++ PROGRAM

Follow these steps to write, save, compile, and run your first C++ program using Microsoft Visual Studio Express 2013 for Windows Desktop, a popular and free IDE (Integrated Development Environment) for the Windows platform.

1. Download Visual Studio Express 2013 for Windows Desktop from www.visualstudio.com/downloads/download-visual-studio-vs.

Hint

Be sure to download Visual Studio Express 2013 for Windows Desktop rather than Visual Studio Express 2013 for Windows, which is a different product.

2. Install Visual Studio Express 2013 for Windows Desktop, accepting the default options.

3. Launch Visual Studio Express 2013 for Windows Desktop. You should see a Welcome dialog, pictured in Figure A.1.
