In Appendix C you learned how to install SharePoint Server, including SQL database options, and how to upgrade from the previous version, MOSS 2007. As mentioned in Chapter 1, SharePoint Server is based on SharePoint Foundation but has an extensive set of extra features, such as advanced search and indexing, Excel services, and business intelligence web parts built-in. To fully understand SharePoint Server and get the most out of its rich feature set you need to understand important concepts about how to manage SharePoint Server.

Appendix B covers all the configuration settings for SharePoint Foundation, and all of this information is also applicable when managing a SharePoint Server environment. This appendix focuses on concepts, features, and configuration settings that are specific for SharePoint Server — therefore you need to read Appendix B before you read this appendix. Just to make it easier for you, some important concepts described in Appendix B are also repeated in this appendix.
