Elizabeth Burns is currently a Medical Librarian at the Kansas City Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Kansas City, MO. She is a member of the Medical Library Association (MLA), the Mid-Continent Medical Library Association (MCMLA), and the Health Sciences Library Network of Kansas City (HSLNKC).

In 2006, she received the HSLNKC award for Outstanding One-Person Health Science Library. She was presented the Barbara McDowell Award for Excellence in Hospital Librarianship in 2009. This award was established in 1984 in honor of Barbara McDowell, Chief of Library Services in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
