Collective Action versus Go It Alone

In case the structure and spirit of this book haven’t already made this clear, everything I know about investing I learned from my community. When my dad ran for mayor, the community held fish frys to raise money for the campaign. This was their way of investing in a vision they could get behind. When my mom was battling cancer, my community invested in her and in me. They cooked meals for Mom, took her to doctors’ appointments, and advocated for her health when she could not. When Mom passed away, folks in the community made sure I knew that, just as much as I was hers, I was theirs too and would never be alone.
