Social media has revolutionized communications over the past decade. Only
a few years ago, “friend” was not a verb and “tweeting” was for the birds. But
now social networking has entered the mainstream and sometimes it seems
like everyone—individuals, corporations, nonprots, advocacy groups, and

This chapter provides an overview of social media, describes some of
