Unhappily, I didn’t have my “means test” prescription available to me
at the time and was operating solely on instinct. In retrospect, though, I
could have simply hauled out my chart for guidance. Were we engaged
sufficiently? No. Was there transparency of all relevant information? Not
really. We were backpedaling most of the time. Did we put our client and its
stakeholders in a position to make their risk-based decisions? No. We weren’t
even close. And we were making ourselves miserable in the process.
I’d failed everyone involved and failed my professional mission, and it
was time to do something about it. Instead of wringing my hands, I set to
thinking about each element of our client’s Everything-Else ...
