The Decision Engines
The power to make decisions is, well, empowering. If you give employ-
ees the leeway to make their own decisions in pursuit of job performance
standards, they’ll be more likely to take responsibility for meeting them. And
if there are standards to which they didn’t quite measure up the first time,
they’ll be more likely to renew their commitment for each successive try if
they have input in deciding what means to employ in those efforts.
The need for practice algorithms now to build outcome-producing capa-
bilities in our accounting firms runs counter to this intuitive understanding
