the Giants, that our successors were failing us despite the fact that they were
doing exactly what we asked them to do: Specialize and work faster.
It was clear now that the two practice model elements—(1) the nature of
our growth imperative and (2) who should integrate our services into the
value stream of our clients’ lives—were coming into alignment on both sides
of our bifurcated business model. They were in agreement with one another
in that the goal was to provide more services to more people at a declining
cost. Unfortunately, though, both of those model elements now disagreed
with the original proposition of the Giants, which was to perform those pro-
cedures more valuably.
