4. Realizing Machine Learning Algorithms in Real Time
This chapter discusses the real-time machine learning (ML) concepts and their motivation. It then outlines challenges in building analytics systems in real time by a practical use case—an Internet traffic classification and filtering system. This falls in the area of what is known as lawful interception—government agencies might want to intercept, analyze, classify, and filter Internet traffic based on certain rules. Building such a system in real time can be challenging. The focus of this chapter is to understand how such a system can be built over Storm, and consequently the chapter starts with an introduction to Storm.
