1.1 Overview

The U.S. Bureau of Labor and Statistics (BLS) defines big data as a collection of large datasets that cannot be analyzed with normal statistical methods. The datasets can represent numerical, textual, and multimedia data. Big data is popularly defined in terms of five Vs: volume, velocity, variety, veracity, and value.
