Summary

In this chapter, we saw how to make life easier for our end users by defining vertex groups in meshes to aid in an easy selection of certain features. We also saw how to assign materials to vertices and how to create new materials if needed. First steps were taken to rig a mesh. Specifically, we learned:

  • How to define vertex groups
  • How to assign vertices to a vertex group
  • How to assign materials to faces
  • How to assign vertex colors to vertices
  • How to set edge properties
  • How to add modifiers
  • How to skin bones

Next up we go beyond static objects and see how to control the movement of objects.
