UV basics: marking a seam

Blender 2.5 supports numerous pre-defined projection algorithms that can be used to unwrap a 3D object, including:

  • Cube projection
  • Cylinder projection
  • Sphere projection
  • Project from view

Each of these projection algorithms are based on optimized settings that would be used to effectively unwrap objects such as cubes, cylinders, and spheres respectively. Imagine how we would peel the skin off of an orange it may take multiple "cuts" to effectively peel the orange properly. Although these pre-defined project algorithms are nice, sometimes it's more useful to manually unwrap our objects. This is mostly used when working with organic models such as faces and other body parts, but it will work just as well for our wine bottle. ...
