Time for action — moving an object in one plane in global mode

Sometimes you want to move an object freely, and sometimes it's better to move it along one axis. Here's a way to move it, by specifying the axis by letter:

  1. Load a new file into Blender.
  2. Select the camera with theRMB. Press the G key to grab it. Now move your mouse.
  3. Now press and release (tap) the Z key and move the mouse.
  4. Now tap the X key and move the mouse.
  5. Now tap the Y key.
  6. Press theRMB to let go of the camera.

What just happened?

You discovered that you can restrict the axis that you move by pressing the G key and then pressing the key of the axis that you wish to move in. This gives us similar control to using the 3D Manipulator.
