A pencil test cuts detail in favor of lots of quick drawings. This lets us see the motion of the character, then add details later:
- Start a new Grease Pencil scene. Rename the scene walk.
- Rename the two starting layers Ground and Draft. Draw a straight line on the Ground layer to put our walk-in context, then lock it.
- On the Adjustments tab for your pencil test layer, give it a Tint Color of light blue and a Factor of 1, turning your lines blue. Traditionally, pencil tests were drawn in blue pencil. When the drawings were inked, the blue would disappear after scanning.
- On the Draft layer, draw with the Draw Pencil with Active Smooth of 1 and Strength of .3. Loosely sketch in the first walk pose.
