Painting the eye

The dragon's eyes are best painted as their own separate texture for the same reason that we organize them as their own separate object. This will make the eye easier to reuse in your future projects and standardizes it so the pupil is in the center of a square texture. We'll paint the individual sections for the pupil, iris, sclera, and blood vessels in Krita as flat layers, then use filters to make the finished texture look like an eyeball.

Note the mesh modifications to the eye mesh in the demo file, including an outer mesh with a glass/transparent shader and the additional modeling for the sclera, iris, and pupil. For an example of the eye texture layers, see dragon_eye.kra in the project files:
