Of all the ways to access data through C++ Builder, the Borland Database Engine (BDE) is one of the most widespread. In addition, the architecture used for its components remains the basis of almost every other component set.
In this chapter you will learn about the capabilities of the BDE and how they are accessed through BDE-based VCL components.
Note that Borland has ceased development on the BDE, and no new features or support for additional databases will be added.
