What Is a Tag Library?

A tag library is a set of custom XML tags encapsulating any logic or processing that may be developed in the Java language. The developer of a tag library implements the functionality behind the XML tags using Java classes, called tag handlers. The Web page designer will be presented with the set of custom XML tags to be included in any JSP with only an understanding of how to use the tags and not the underlying Java programming.

A tag library can be any set of commonly performed actions such as loops and if-then logic, or it can be highly customized to a particular Web site or business.
