IN THIS CHAPTER

The Common Object Request Broker Architecture (CORBA) is a specification that describes how objects communicate with other objects over a network. The specification provides for vendor and implementation language independence. The Object Management Group (OMG) created and maintains the CORBA specification. OMG has more than 800 members including companies such as 3M, IBM, Citigroup, HP, Sun Microsystems, Fujitsu, Oracle, Bank of America, Chevron, Ford, and Boeing.
