General Meetings
General Meetings—or “generals” as they are more widely known—are effectively meet-and-greets between a producer, development executive network or studio executive, and the writer whose work the individual behind the desk has taken to. The formula bringing a writer to these meetings is deceptively simple: a great spec—whether for a feature or television pilot—inspires a rep to take the script out to market, whether as a writing sample or for a potential sale. The market responds to the writing style, the voice, the concept, or all of the above. Even if the spec script fails to sell, with any luck a slew of generals are set, and the writer begins building and/or extending his fan base. ...
