Today’s Television Landscape
There is no doubt about it: We are currently experiencing the golden age of television. With 409 original scripted programs airing in 2015, and as many as 450 original programs expected to hit the air in 2016, that simple fact can’t be argued. We went from 29 scripted shows in 1999 to 409 less than 20 years later. Netflix—one of our outstanding growth examples—went from a big fat donut of hours of original scripted content to 450 hours in just over 2 years. There are more outlets for original episodic content than ever before, with more (Apple and Crackle, just to name a few) coming on board.
