Like most people in InfoSec, I started out in IT. I started out managing desktops for a large law firm; we had over 3,000 desktops. I took on the responsibility of managing the anti-virus for the desktops, because no one else wanted to do it, among other tasks. This was 01997 and we had no central management console, so I would email the weekly DAT file to users and ask them to click on it! It was absurd then and even more so today.
