When I started writing this book, I reached out to some of my favorite investors in the industry—my peers, friends, and collaborators—many of whom, like me, worked hard to break into venture capital despite not having the typical background that has historically dominated the industry. Some of them are featured in these pages, but many more of them declined to be interviewed for fear of “sending a message that they had made it in venture capital” when they believed they hadn’t.
