The operative word in the title of this chapter is ‘myths’. Pitching is often considered to be something of a black art, with words like ‘magic’ and ‘genius’ sometimes attached to particular individuals. Sometimes this is deserved, and there are examples of how a bit of theatre and magic can make the difference between an average pitch and a brilliant pitch. I would suggest to you, however, that prospects are not going to be swayed by theatre alone. Style alone does not usually triumph over substance.
