In the first edition of Brilliant Confidence, I told a true story about Sid, my neighbour. It took Sid eighteen months to build his own house. I kept track of his progress. Mostly he worked alone, just occasionally he needed help. I remember watching him look up at his house and walk proudly through the front door when he’d finished. Sid knew what he wanted his house to look like; he had a plan and he achieved it. Brick by brick, Sid had built his house.

It wasn’t until after he’d finished that he told me he’d never built a house before!
