Using Visual Web Developer
The first step in learning how to use this tool is, obviously, starting it up. Access
Start > All Programs > Microsoft Visual Web Developer 2005 Express Edition. Youll
be welcomed by a page that looks something like the one shown in Figure 5.2.
Lets start by creating a new web site. Select File > New Web Site, or click the
Web Site link next to the Create label.
In the dialog that appears, which is shown in Figure 5.3, select the ASP.NET Web
Site template, choose the web sites default language, and identify the location
at which the web site should be created. Feel free to choose the language with
which you feel most comfortable, and remember that you can choose different
languages for use in different files, so if youre not sure which language is your
favorite just yet, dont worry. For the location, create a folder named Dorknozzle
located in the WebDocs folder youve been working with so far. You can create
this folder by entering its path into the Location field. If you placed WebDocs in
the root folder of C:\, the location will be C:\WebDocs\Dorknozzle.
