Early in 2001, I was asked by my employer at the time, Hewlett-Packard, to become involved in a large cluster delivery at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) in Richland, Washington. The request was based on my experience with Linux, knowledge of Itanium processors, computer architecture skills, large-scale system administration experience, and of course, knowing Hewlett-Packard products.
