For our dashboard, we will add a bar chart showing revenue over time to enhance our revenue table. Then, we'll layer over a line to show net income as a complement to revenue. With this technique, we can show income, even when it's technically a loss, against revenue.

Let's start building our bar chart. To build a revenue chart, follow these steps:

  1. Open the GP 2016 Dashboard.xlsx file that we've been working with.
  2. Select the Dashboard worksheet.
  3. Highlight cells D7 through H8. They should contain the revenue and net income information from the table.
  4. Select the Insert tab from the ribbon.
  5. Select the icon for Combo Charts from the ribbon:
