2. The Database Cloud Administrator—Duties and Roles
In Chapter 1, “Database as a Service Concepts—360 Degrees,” we introduced the core concepts that define and drive cloud computing in general. We went into some detail about how the concept of cloud computing applies to the database world, and we talked about the roles and interactions that exist in a cloud environment at a very high level.
In this chapter, we explore what it means to be an Oracle database administrator (DBA) in the cloud computing world. The basic role and functions of the DBA working in a cloud environment are not much different than in a traditional, on-premises environment. What does change with the cloud paradigm is the thought process and viewpoint.
