Yet another kind of index that can be created is the combined index. Combined indexes can be useful when it is desirable to have all index types combined in a single index. Having a single index is operationally more streamlined than administering multiple indexes. While all index types can be created individually, it is also possible to create an index that contains more than one index type. The combined index can be made up of any and all of the other kinds of indexes. In a combined index, there can be simple index entries, fractured index entries, named value index entries, homographic index entries, patterned index entries, and external category index entries.
