It is important to understand the difference between a search engine and an unstructured data analytical engine. A search engine is technology that is designed to look for occurrences of text exactly as the text was written. An analytical engine is technology that reads, interprets, and transforms text so that the text can be used for analytical processing. Simply stated, search processing assumes that you cannot make many fundamental changes to text before processing. An analytical engine makes the assumption that many major changes must be made to text before the text is fit for analytical processing. These differences are best illustrated by some examples.
