The classical development methodology is called the SDLC or “system development lifecycle.” The classical development methodology is shown in Figure 5.1.

In Figure 5.1 it is seen that there is a linear progression from the early stages of design and development to the final stages. Development proceeds from one stage of development to the next in a “waterfall” manner. The next stage of development does not start until the preceding step is complete.
