This new book builds on the core collection of ideas provided in the Routledge Companion to Business History (Wilson et al., 2016). Specifically, in further elaborating on the Companion’s multi-perspective approach, we aim both to explain the progress that business history as a discipline has made and assess how this can be sustained, focusing on what we regard as the three pillars of research, teaching and practical impact. A key issue in this respect will be assessing why business history has made considerable progress in terms of the research pillar yet failed to make much of an impact in the other two areas.
