5 Where is digital today?
In this chapter we take a global tour and look at where digital broadcasting is today. We shall examine the early trials and tribulations of a few specific broadcasters to see what lessons, if any, may be learnt.
As with so many other technology innovations, North America was the first major region to adopt digital broadcasting. In Chapter 4 we outlined some of the problems facing terrestrial broadcasters with their HDTV obligations, but in one area digital is already a huge success – satellite DTH broadcasting.
