Documenting Principles and Values

This step documents the principles and values that govern the operations and decision-making of the “Organization-in-Focus.” In this step, the organization defines its core principles, beliefs, and values and then examines each stakeholder relationship at the chosen level of decomposition, linking each relationship to relevant values. This step contributes to the criteria for later selection of the most appropriate changes or decisions to be made.

An example of the knowledge produced as a result of documenting principles can be found in Figure 10.7 (see top center “Principles” section).
